Equine Nutrition

I think the best we can do for our horses is feed them good quality grass hay which is high in fat and fiber but low in protein and carbohydrates. That means trying to keep their ph as balanced as possible.  One problem that I see commonly is that horses are fed too much energy for the amount of work they are doing. This causes a imbalance in their ph which can lead to many problems including lameness and joint pain as well as endocrine problems to name a few. If your horse is only working an hour a day he does not need energy for a 10 hour day, yet most of the commercial feeds contain high amounts of energy. So I researched and found a food out of Canada that is really what I have been looking for.... FINALLY feed by KAM nutrition. (click here for ingredients) The main ingredient in this food is timothy hay with various herbs and minerals depending on what part of the country the horse is in and what season it is. If you would like to try this feed (contact our office for info)
